VEGAN TRAVEL CLINIC - TOP 5 ITEMS

There is an inexpensive 5 item, vegan friendly mini first aid kit that's easy to put together and doesn't take up valuable packing space.

Find out how clove oil saved the day for me in the middle of the Bolivian Salt Flats and put together your own five item vegan friendly travel medicine kit.

If you only pack two essential oils, let them be clove and tea tree.

Years ago, I was leading a  trip over the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, the salt flats are amazing and incredibly remote. Once you leave the small town of Uyuni head out onto the salt flats in a jeep and after a few hours of driving all you can see is bright white salt flats for hundreds of miles, no doctors or dentists in sight.

My driver, usually full of life and singing away to backstreet boys (don't deny it Obed) had toothache and was becoming alarmingly sick, on deciding I couldn't drive the jeep (it's quite the responsibility, compasses don't even work there) cook all the meals and look after my group I gave my Obed a clove oil swab to put on his tooth, he was back at the wheel within half an hour, clove oil really saved the day.

Clove oil has antiviral, antibacterial, anti fungal properties and can reduce inflammation quickly, that clove oil really save the day.

Tea tree oil has wonderful properties that makes it a popular natural agent for curing all three types of infectious organisms: fungus, bacteria and virus, it's also know to effectively fight a number of infections resistant to antibiotics. Brilliant for sun burn, insect bites and other minor wounds and irritations.

Ginger tea bags are a great addition to your medicine kit, ginger is know to be a natural painkiller, is anti inflammatory and has properties that relieve  the effects of nausea associated with motion sickness, migraines and heartburn.

Blister relief is crucial, even a small blister has the potential to ruin an afternoon stroll around a new city in Spain or an overnight volcano hike in Guatemala, Pangea - The Vegan Store have a range of (really exciting) vegan friendly goodies, including decent plasters / band aids which are best used the moment you feel a hot spot.

Travel thermometer; the essential oils, ginger tea bags and blister relief plasters will enable you to take care of minor health problems as they occur but by monitoring your body's core temperature you'll be able to asses if you require further medical assistance, an average adult body temperature is 37C / 98.6F it goes without saying to always seek medical assistance if you feel it's necessary.
